The Tutoring Center, Honolulu HI

Math Help in Honolulu, HI.

One of the best parts about living in Hawaii is enjoying the weather. With the end of school means more free time and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. However, it’s still very important to stay focused on academics. Luckily, The Tutoring Center in Honolulu has three fun science activities to help your kids stay mentally sharp, but enjoy summer too.

Make a Bird Feeder

Birds are beautiful animals found just about anywhere. If you want to attract some birds to your home, try baiting them with a bird feeder. You can find many different designs online or simply coat a dried pinecone in a layer of peanut butter and roll it in bird seed. Observe the birds as they feed, and try to identify how many different types of birds there are in your area. If your bird feeder is particularly popular, you can find a bird guidebook at a local library to research more information.

Make a Weather Station

The summer months are full of all different types of weather. Make a simple weather station to monitor the trends where you live. Typically, a weather station has a wind vane, rain gauge, and thermometer. You can easily make a rain gauge by marking inches or centimeters on the side of an empty clear container. If you want to mark both, just use two colors. A wind vane can be a little more complicated but there are many designs online. Keep a weather station log to record all of your data. Review it regularly and see if you can identify any trends or relations as the days go on.

Go to the Park

The park is a great place to enjoy the summer days. Add a little education to your adventure by reviewing some scholastic topics. Take a camera and document the different plants and animals you see in a biosphere journal. You can also review some basic physics while playing and exercising. If you pack a healthy picnic lunch, talk about nutrition while you eat. The possibilities at the park are endless!

These activities are great for everyday learning but if you are interested in more focused academic programs to help your student this summer, contact our experts today.
